On Sunday, July 18, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the Huntingtown and North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squads responded to a single vehicle accident on Ponds Wood Road and Sunrise Drive for an over-turned vehicle.
Once the ambulance arrived on the scene to evaluate the situation, they found multiple patients – adult and children. There were also two adults still trapped in the vehicle. There were four adults and six children transported to the hospital. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
Huntingtown Squad supported the vehicle and started rescue of the entrapped patients. There were five ambulances from Huntingtown, North Beach, Dunkirk and Prince Frederick on the call to transport to hospital.
It was reported that some if not all of the patients in the vehicle did not have their seatbelt on. It is believed that a rear tire blowout caused the accident. Calvert Sheriff’s department is handling the investigation.
