Marcell Bryan Hemsley
Waldorf, MD— On April 29, Charles County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the Berry Road Burchmart, located on Berry Road in Waldorf for a reported shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a victim with a gunshot wound to the head and neck.ย
Due to the severity of the injuries,ย the victim was flown to an area trauma center. The critically injured victim was later interviewedย and said, “he was shot on Bridle Path Drive in Waldorf,” according to charging documents. Officers were able to locate evidence consistent with a firearm/gun being shot at that location.ย
The victim advised that an associate of his known as ‘Marcell’ contacted him and asked for a ride and directed him to Bridle Path Drive. The victim drove to the locationย and when he arrived ‘Marcell’ got into the passenger’s seat.ย
According to charging documents, “Moments later an unknown male walked up to the victim’s car and shot the victim one time in the head with a handgun while standing a short distance away without saying anything.”ย
Immediately after being shot, ‘Marcell’ grabbed the victim’s pants and tried going through his pockets, but was unsuccessful. Both suspects then got into another vehicleย together and fled the scene.ย
The victim advised that he knew ‘Marcell,’ for a couple of years, but only knows him by his first name and what neighborhood he lived in. The victim was shown a picture of Marcell Bryan Hemsley, 15 of Accokeek. The victim was able to identify Hemsley, who was the person who contacted him and directed him to Bridle Path Drive.ย
At the time of the shooting, the victim had approximately $1,300 in cash on his person. According to charging documents, “It is believed Hemsley conspired with the unknown male who shot the victim, and their intent was to kill the victim and take his money.”ย
Hemsley has been charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, conspiracy to commit attempted first-degree murder, and first-degree assault.ย Hemsley is currently incarcerated at the Charles County Detention Center on a no bond status.
Hemsley has a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for May 20 in District Court. Hemsley faces a maximum jail sentence of life.ย
The charging documents were prepared by Det. John R. Elliott of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.ย
