After a successful event in 2009, Jay Armsworthy has decided to do it again!
It’s the 2nd Annual “Bluegrass For Hospice”, one day music event to raise money for the Hospice House in St. Mary’s County located in Callaway, Maryland. Presented and coordinated by Jay Armsworthy, the “Bluegrass For Hospice” will be held at the Flat Iron Farm on Flat Iron Road in Great Mills, Maryland with many local Bluegrass bands providing entertainment beginning at Noon and will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010.
This year’s event will feature the award winning Bluegrass group, “The Grasscals” from Nashville, Tennessee and Rounder Records. “The Grasscals” are among the most beloved and acclaimed bands on today’s bluegrass scene, having won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2005 and earning its Entertainer of the Year honor in both 2006 and 2007. Timely yet timeless, The Grasscals make music that is entirely relevant to the here and now, yet immersed in traditional values of soul and musicianship. It’s a unique sound that has earned two of their previous releases, The Grasscals (2005) and Long List of Heartaches (2006) Grammy® nominations for Best Bluegrass Album.
Other local bands that will cross the stage throughout the day will be (not in this order) David Norris, Kenny Rickett & Recent Addition, Jack Tippett Band, Jay Armsworthy & Eastern Tradition, Joey Tippett & the California Ramblers, Charlie Thompson & Bottom County Bluegrass, Bubby Abell & Spoon Creek, and a special appearance by Gracie’s Guys and Gals Dancers. Bluegrass For Hospice is sponsored in part by C & C Plumbing Inc. in Hollywood, MD, along with: College of Southern Maryland; Community Bank of Tri-County; and CSC Applied Technology Group, Range & Engineering Services in Lexington Park, and is supported by other business’s and individuals.
Other events will take place as the day goes on such as Raffles, Door Prizes, Silent Auctions, and Craft Fair, vendors, and Children’s activities. There will also be a $500.00 money raffle that will be on sale between now until the end of the event. Food will be available for sale by Thompson’s Catering. All proceeds for this day will go toward the Hospice House of St. Mary’s.
