At 3:51 p.m. Oct. 16, Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department units were returning Oct. 16 from a firefighter funeral in Baltimore when they were alerted to a crash at Rt. 260 and Harrison Boulevard, reports Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe.
Riffe and Squad 6 requested to respond and arrived first on the scene finding a two-vehicle “T-Bone collision.”
Shortly thereafter Company 1 (North Beach) responded, along with Engine 151 (Navy Base), and Ambulance 5 (Dunkirk).
Upon further evaluation, four patients were found with severe intrusion into one of the vehicles passenger compartment. One additional ambulance (Huntingtown 69, Hayward) was also requested.
A rear seat passenger was also disoriented and going in and out of consciousness. Because of this and MOI, two patients were flown to PG Shock Trauma by Trooper 7 helicopter.
Two additional patients were ground transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. command was terminated at 4:36 p.m. hours.
While units were picking up from the scene, emergency cmmunications advised of another accident at Rt. 260 and Boyds Turn Rd.
Within a minute, units started arrived on location from the other crash scene, to find a three vehicles crash and one patient trapped.
Asst. Chief Riffe (6A) established command while the crew from Squad 6 immediately went to work extricating the trapped driver.
Fire Engine 151 (Capt D’Intino) and Rescue 1 arrived shortly after and assisted Squad 6.
Both front driver and passenger side doors were popped, along with removal of the roof and driver’s side “B” post.
One patient was flown to PG Shock Trauma by Trooper 6 helicopter. Two additional patients were ground transported to Calvert Memorial. At 5:30 p.m. command was terminated.
