On Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at approximately 5:15 PM, a three vehicle personal injury crash occurred on northbound MD Rt. 2-4, immediately south of the Gas-Shop, Huntingtown, in Calvert County.

Investigation determined that Tonya R. Jones (age 41 of Huntingtown) was attempting to cross N/B Rt. 2-4, in a 2001 Ford Windstar van. She failed to yield to a 2005 GMC truck operated by Justin S. Chaney (age 24 of Huntingtown) which was traveling north. Mr. Chaneyโ€™s truck slammed into the right side of the Ford van. The van was pushed into the Gas-Shop parking lot where it struck a parked 2004 Mercedes SUV owned by Mr. Raghuvir Singh.

Two Children Among the Injured
Several individuals inย Jones’ Ford van sustained incapacitating injuries. A six-year-old boy, a fifteen-year-oldย girl, and Charles Smith (adult male) all of Huntingtown, were flown from the crash by Maryland State Police helicopters.

Two additional females (ages 8 and 16 โ€“ both of Huntingtown) were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Chaney and his passenger (Jason Handley โ€“ age 25 of St. Leonard) were also transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. As of this press release, all occupants transported are expected to recover from their injuries.

Ms. Tonya Jones was responsible for the crash and was charged with failing to yield right of way. The Ford van and the GMC truck were destroyed. The Mercedes SUV sustained minor damage. Contact Lieutenant H. R. Rich (410/535-1400 or 301/855-1975) for further information.
