At 6:15 p.m., on Dec. 2, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Thrifty Wash located at 4360 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head for the report of an assault in progress.
Investigation revealed the victim, a 83-year-old Indian Head man, was placing money in a safe when a man emerged from the closet and assaulted him. The suspect punched the victim, knocked him to the floor, stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.
The victim provided officers with a description of the suspect and a Maryland State Police trooper found him behind the business. The trooper attempted to arrest the suspect but the suspect resisted. Officer M. Smith responded and he and the trooper were able to place the suspect in custody. The suspect was subsequently identified as Michael Anthony Dodson, 45, of Indian Head and charged with robbery and second-degree assault.
He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. The victim sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to Fort Washington Medical Center. Officer Smith investigated.
