Nolan Scully is a three-year-old, local boy who has been fighting a tough disease called Rhabdomyosarcoma, but he is not alone. The community is fighting with him.
Just last week, while, at Georgetown Hospital, the Washington Capitals players stopped by to meet and encourage Nolan. Ovechkin, Carlson, Backstrom, Alzner and more were all there to visit and hang out.
Saturday was no different. Hundreds of participants and volunteers showed up to take part in the Fight Like A Kid Fun Run & Walk to benefit Nolan. In the heart of Leonardtown, outside of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, people gathered to get ready for the race on the brisk early morning.
Showing support were St. Maryโs Sheriff, MD State Police, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, 7th District Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, Foundation 4 Heroes and more.
The best part of the day was Nolan being given a release to come to the event to wave and say hello to his fans. The race itself was won by Noah Wood in 17:46 who breezed through the event and then had enough energy to mess with Foundation 4 Heroesโ Darth Vader, Princess Leia and a Storm Trooper.
People of all ages and abilities came out to run or walk but, more importantly, they supported a great cause. Thank you to everyone who braved the cold air for this event. And special thanks to all of the people who continue to come together to support Nolan and help his family during these difficult times.
