When winter sets in and the kids are snowed in from school, it’s time to get them out and play in the snow. Building a snowman is relatively easy and a creative way to express yourself. Here are 5 basic steps to creating the perfect snowman:
Make sure you have the right snow.ย Snow cannot be two dry or two wet, it must be a packing snow. That’s to say, it clumps together easily when you pick it up. Make a few snowballs to test it out and throw them if you must!
Start shaping a snowball. Begin by packing snow together in a ball. Add more and more snow until it gets to large to hold.
Gently put the ball of snow on the ground and start rolling it. Pack and shape the snow as you go, to as round as you can get it or to the shape you desire. Continue rolling and packing until you get the desired size of the bottom or base of your snowman.
Repeat this procedure for the middle snow section and the head. Normally there are just three sections.
Now the fun begins. Get creative and find clothing, food items or anything you want to decorate your snowman. Scarves, carrot for the nose, buttons for eyes, hat and sticks for arms are typical materials used for the classic snowman.
Remember, there are no set rules when you build a snowman. Let your imagination take over and use materials and themes that express your individuality. Make your snowman yourself, with family, or make it a block party. Try not to get to attached though, because the sun and others will want to destroy your work of art eventually.
