Vice Principal Transfers, Assignments and Temporary Placements.

Two acting vice principals were named this week. Tammika Little, a gifted resource teacher at General Smallwood Middle School, is acting vice principal at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School. Douglas Dolan, an assistant principal at Friendly High School, is acting vice principal at Theodore Davis Middle School.
Justin Aglio, previously approved as a vice principal by the Board of Education, has been assigned to Maurice J. McDonough High School.

Two transfers have been announced. Nancy Pirner, vice principal at William B. Wade Elementary School is transferring to Dr. James Craik Elementary School. Nancy Vogt-Kruelle, vice principal at Indian Head Elementary School, is transferring to Wade.

State Honors 22 Schools for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Twenty-two Charles County public schools were honored Tuesday, Aug. 1, by the Maryland State Department of Education as part of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.
The PBIS program focuses on the process of creating safe and more effective schools. The program includes the development and implementation of research-based classroom discipline systems, the reinforcement of desirable behaviors, the use of tangible and social reinforcements and clear and consistent responses to behavioral violations.ย ย ย 

Theย following schools were named Exemplar schools:

Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Elementary School;
Dr. Gustavus Brown Elementary School;
Eva Turner Elementary School;
J.C. Parks Elementary School;
John Hanson Middle School;
J. P. Ryon Elementary School;
Malcolm Elementary School;
Mary H. Matula Elementary School;
Matthew Henson Middle School;
T.C. Martin Elementary School; and
Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School.

Exemplar Schools are nominated by their school system.ย Each school undergoes an on-site visit conducted by members of the Maryland PBIS leadership team.ย The schools areย  evaluated using the systems evaluation tool (SET), through interviews with school staff and students, and an overall determination of how well the school implemented critical features of the PBIS program.

The following schools were named Green Ribbon schools:

Arthur Middleton Elementary School;
Berry Elementary School;
Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School;
Dr. Thomas L. Higdon Elementary School;
General Smallwood Middle School;
Milton M. Somers Middle School;
North Point High School; and
William A. Diggs Elementary School.

The following schools received Banner awards:

C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School;
Henry E. Lackey High School;
Indian Head Elementary School; and
Piccowaxen Middle School.

Schools are eligible for the Green Ribbon award if they have an active administration, have a PBIS team that meets monthly, have submitted required forms on time and have
