It was always a cool thing to see my name in the news as a child.ย Family friends would clip the article for me or mention that they saw my name in the news the next time I met them.ย
No, I hadnโt brokered a peace treaty or developed a medical breakthrough, but these wonderful people managed to look sincerely impressed at my accomplishment.ย They made me feel extra great about my hard work.ย The recognition from those neighbors and friends always made my day.

Board of Education Student Achievement Honorees for March 2007
Sarah Walters (5th grade, Diggs) was honored for her academic achievement. She is a 4.0 student and demonstrates excellent citizenship. She received the HAWKS award for outstanding behavior during the first quarter. She also plays percussion in the school band.
Sarah Shumaker (5th grade, Arthur Middleton) was honored for academic achievement. She is an honor roll student, a member of the school safety patrol & the Just Say No Club, and active in the school band.ย She was named citizen of the month by her fellow students two years in row.
Micaela Facchina (8th grade, Piccowaxen) was honored in the area of personal responsibility. She is consistently on the honor roll and recently volunteered to mentor a sixth-grade student who was having difficulties adjusting to middle school. She also is the morning announcer, a dance teacher in the community services program and a mentor in the โLittle Sistersโ program.
Briana D. Jones (senior, Thomas Stone) was honored for career readiness. She is employed at GI Associates in Waldorf, and her supervisor describes her as a superb and reliable person. She carries a 3.8 grade point average and plans to attend college after graduation.
Alejandro Lepe (5th grade, Eva Turner) was honored for academic achievement. He is an honor roll student and takes accelerated math and reading courses. He is involved in the school safety patrol, the Destination Imagination team, the school math team and the school band.
Joanna Wimbush (5th grade, J.P. Ryon) was honored for academic achievement. She earned straight Aโs during the first two quarters of this school year and a perfect score on the second quarter math assessment. She is a member of the school math team and tutors kindergarten students during her recess time.
