Ramon Calderon

La Plata, MD โ€”ย A man charged in 2014 with physically, verbally and sexually abusing his three daughters will face sentencing Sept. 14 in Charles County Circuit Court.

Judge H. James West said Tuesday, Aug. 16 that the court is still waiting for a psychological evaluation that needs to be done before the defendant, Ramon Calderon, 53 of no fixed address, can be sentenced after accepting a plea deal.

Calderon is accused of molesting his three young daughters and physically abusing them.

Charles County Assistant States Attorney Francis Granados asserted that the defendant controlled his daughters.

โ€œHe was able to do that through an atmosphere of fear,โ€ Granados said. โ€œBecause of the physical abuse the girls came to fear their father and caused them to submit to the sexual abuse he inflicted.โ€

The two older sisters felt โ€œthey had to take on the jobโ€ of protecting their youngest sister, he stated.

โ€œThey are all now facing trauma because of the violent outbursts their father is capable of,โ€ Granados said. โ€œThe three girls all share the same fear.โ€

He said they were beaten with extension cords, chains and one was beaten with โ€œa piece of wood because of her grades.โ€

A cousin of the three girls said Calderon, โ€œAbused and terrorized his daughters.โ€

One of his daughters testified that the abuse began when she was 4-years-old and continued until the time she left home.

She and her sisters were beaten โ€œwith whatever my father had within reach,โ€ she said, adding that she still suffers from nightmares โ€œof being sexually touched by my father.

โ€œPast protective orders have not been able to keep him away from us,โ€ she said.

Two of the three girls now live with a friend of the family, who told West she worked at a construction company where Calderon was employed.

โ€œI knew Ramon and his wife before the children were born,โ€ she said, adding one daughter has been with her for six months, the other about a year.

โ€œYou opened up your home to them,โ€ the judge inquired.

โ€œYes,โ€ she said.

โ€œI think itโ€™s amazing when people do that,โ€ he noted, โ€œpeople who do things like you have done, make everything better.โ€

Charles County Public Defender Michael Beach asked the judge for time to go over the defendantโ€™s evaluation before sentencing, so the judge set Sept. 14 as the date.
