UPDATE – 10:10 p.m. – Firefighters who responded are currently being closely monitored due to being exposed to toxic fumes that were produced by the fire.

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — We are receiving reports of a structure fire in the Spring Valley Apartments.

At approximately 9:39 p.m. on June 5, first responders were dispatched to reports of a dumpster fire in the apartment complex. Upon arrival, crews discovered that the reported fire had spread from the dumpster to a single-story pool house. First units on the scene described the building as showing heavy flames.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and crews are still working to contain the fire as of 9:59 p.m., however fire is no longer reportedly showing on the outside of the structure. First responders have stated that there are flammable pool chemicals causing additional risk of spreading fire within the structure.

No injuries have been reported at this time. SMECO and the State Fire Marshal have been notified to respond to the scene.
This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as we receive them.
