ย Leonardtown, MD – A fire in St. Maryโs County Tuesday morning, April 5 damaged a house and a shed, displaced a family and claimed the life of a dog, state investigators reported.
The fire occurred shortly after 6 a.m. at a residence on Cedar Lane Court in Leonardtown. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, 32 firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 30 minutes.
โThe fire started inside the shed by a propane heater that was being used to keep the family dog warm,โ a fire marshalโs report stated. โThe fire was discovered by the homeowner and spread to the nearby house, causing damage to the house before being extinguished by the fire department.โ
Damage to the structures is estimated at $125,000. No injuries were reported.
Authorities identified the owner/occupant as Ricky Taylor.
Update 9 a.m.
Cedar Lane Court has been reopened to traffic. Fire crews are still at the scene and motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
UPDATE 7:15 a.m.
Leonardtown, MD – The garage fire was reported to be under control. Personnel from SMECO and the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office are responding to the scene.
No injuries are reported at this time.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office advises that Cedar Lane Court in the area of Cedar Lane Road is temporarily closed to traffic due to the fire.

Leonardtown, MD – Firefighters have been dispatched to a blaze on Cedar Lane Court in Leonardtown. The structure is reportedly a 50-foot-by-50-foot garage located next to a house. The building was reported to be fully involved with fire. ย The fire call went out shortly after 6 a.m.
