With the first day of the 2015-16 school year right around the corner, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners extends its best wishes and support to every student.
The board also urges commuters to stay alert as student drivers and buses take to the road the first day of school Aug. 25. This year, in an effort to improve safety at and near school zones, the boardย unanimously adopted a new ordinance establishing the Calvert County Safety for Students Program.
The program involves placing mobile speed cameras at six school locations. The cameras will be located near Huntingtown, Mt. Harmony and Windy Hill elementary schools; Northern, Windy Hill and Mill Creek middle schools and Northern and Patuxent high schools. A speed camera has been in place at Beach Elementary School since 2012.
This automated speed enforcement effort will help local law enforcement keep our students safe, traffic calm and address dangerous speeding. View the ordinance in its entirety at Safety For Students.
Have a safe school year!
