Applebee's Prince Frederick, MD

Hollywood, MD – Business Insider reports Applebee’s is planning to close as many as 135 of its restaurants this year. That number is more than double the number of locations chain executives said would close earlier this year. Last year Applebee’s closed 46 locations.

Applebee’s parent company, Dine Equity, which also owns International House of Pancakes (IHOP) reported Thursday, Aug. 10 that they experienced a $3.5 million income drop in 2017’s second quarter. The Business Insider report stated restaurants slated to close “are either in areas with declining traffic or locations with low sales that offer customers a substandard experience.”

There are four Applebee’s restaurants in lower Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick, California, Waldorf and La Plata. The company has not divulged a list of specific locations that will be closing.
