Melwood Recreation Center in Nanjemoy held its second annual Armed Forces Day on Saturday May 18. The event is intended to show appreciation to active duty military, veterans and their families and as a way to give back to the community.

The day included free food/ice cream and beverages and activities such as swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, walk climbing, face painting, horticulture activities and more. There also was a small resource display for military-friendly businesses andย community resourcesย to share their offerings and help connect service members with job opportunities.

Although the rain cut down somewhat on the attendance from the previous year, as the pictures of the smiling faces attest, everyone had a good time.

The event was coordinated by Melwood Director of Recreation Bekah Carmichael.ย
