Fire investigators are searching for clues to who or what destroyed a single-story home on Holmes Road in Mechanicsville early Monday morning.
Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the single story house at 2:37 a.m. and took 35 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The fire caused an estimated $300,000 worth of damage. An initial report by Deputy State Fire Marshal Jeff Frye states that the fire began in the car port of the home as a result of an incendiary device.
Several fire companies, including Mechanicsville, Hughesville, Hollywood, Benedict, Avenue, Waldorf and La Plata volunteer fire departments responded to the scene, along with Prince George’s Fire Department’s Station 36.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Frye at 443-550-6832.
