Area residents are invited to join the Arts Alliance of St. Maryโ€™s College of Maryland โ€“ a nonprofit organization with more than 600 members that supports and promotes cultural and arts-related activities and programs for the enrichment and enjoyment of the Southern Maryland community.

Membership benefits include: invitations to special Arts Alliance events, exclusive mailings about college programs, discounts for various programs, a college parking permit, and a college library card. ย The Arts Alliance sponsors the River Concert Series, awards grants for faculty programs and guest artists, conducts outreach programs to schools and community groups, and promotes the development of the collegeโ€™s art collection.

The Arts Alliance is holding a wine and Hors dโ€™oeuvres appreciation reception February 4, at 6 p.m. in Montgomery Hall. ย Residents who become members by February 2 may attend.

โ€œMisleading Trails,โ€ a six-week exhibition on display in the Boyden Gallery from January 17th to March 4th, will be featured at the reception.ย  The central theme of โ€œMisleading Trailsโ€ is challenging todayโ€™s political and cultural systems.ย  Through sculpture, prints, and paintings, seven Chinese and American artists provide a visual commentary on the changing international community.ย  Contributing artists are: Ai Weiwei, Enrique Chagoya, Vernon Fisher, Hai Bo, Hong Hao, Dan Mills, and Xiaoze Xie.
