Hollywood, MDย — Yes fall is upon us. The mornings are colder, leaves are accumulating in your yard, and football games are taking your Sundays over again. Let us not forget that our friends in our gardens still depend on us, even in the cooler times of the year.ย

Wes Cook, President and Landscape Designer of The Greenery Nursery, gave some detailed advice about having your home and garden looking as festive as possible.

“Having a combination of mums, pansies, pumpkins and cornstalks–even adding bales of straw–will enhance the fall feel of your home’s entrance,” said Cook. ย ย

Another aspect of gardening, especially in the Southern Maryland region, is dealing with the enormous amount of clay. Flowers, bushes and trees all need our help with their root systems forming in this type of soil.ย

“Soilย conditioner and organic compost help the plants thrive in the mostly clay soil that Southern Maryland possesses. The item that we offer is called ‘Leaf Grow,’ it’s the most popular. This compost should be mixed with your clay soil, letting your plants have an easier time with root growth,” said Cook.ย

An additional aspect that makes The Greenery unique is the family-orientedย aspect you feel when you arrive at this nursery. Many of the employees The Greenery has on staff have been with the company for 15 years or longer.

Valerie Grimm, manager of the garden shop at The Greenery has had numerous years [11] experience working hand in hand with customers and plants.ย

“Fall is the best time to be planting to get the roots established. We also work a lot with critical areas, which is includes planting a lot of native plants. This is also a very important time to plant trees, due to roots developing,” said Grimm.ย

“I absolutely love my job, helping the customer out with their unique situations is why I do this job,” said Grimm.ย
