Prince Frederick, MD – Another election year is looming and two longtime assistant attorneys will be vying for their current boss’ job in Calvert County. Both Deputy State’s Attorney Kathryn Marsh and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Rappaport have announced intentions to seek the office of state’s attorney in 2018. Incumbent State’s Attorney Laura Martin has announced her intention to retire once her current term expires in early 2019. Martin, who served as deputy state’s attorney under Robert Riddle before he was appointed District Court judge, was first elected in 2006. She was reelected with no opposition in 2010 and 2014.
Marsh is a 1998 graduate of the University of Arizona and a 2002 graduation of the University of Baltimore Law School. While a law student, Marsh worked in the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office as a victim witness advocate. Since joining the office as an attorney she has prosecuted a variety of felony cases.
Rappaport is a 2000 graduate of Elon University and a 2003 graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School. Prior to joining Calvert’s office in 2007, Rappaport worked in the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. Rappaport specializes in vehicular manslaughter cases.
