A teller at the Bank of America on Chesapeake Beach Road in Owings called police on June 29 for an attempted theft in progress involving a fraudulent check.
Calvert County Sheriff Dfc. John M. (Marty) McCarroll responded and found that Christopher A. Gasch, 25, of Owings, was in possession of a check belonging to another customer of the bank.
Gasch was trying to cash the check but the teller recognized he was not the correct the account owner.
McCarroll applied for charges and subsequently served Gasch on July 25 with a criminal summons for theft and uttering. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7.
