Maryland Department of Public Safety and Corrections officers responded to a residence on Independence Drive on March 10 at 9:13 a.m. to serve an arrest warrant.Officers made contact with suspect Eldridge Eugene Shade, age 48, to serve a retake warrant for a parole violation when he closed the door and refused to exit the residence. Those officers requested assistance and deputies from the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to the scene.

Once on the scene, patrol supervision determined the situation was a barricade and requested additional Sheriffโ€™s Office resources and personnel respond. Emergency Services Team (EST) and Critical Incident Negotiation Team (CINT) personnel immediately responded to the scene.

Nearby homes were evacuated and Independence Drive was closed to traffic for precautionary measures. Once a perimeter was established by the EST, members of the CINT directed Shade and any other occupants of the residence to come outside.ย 

At approximately 10:45AM, Shade exited the residence without incident and was taken into custody. He was turned over to Maryland Department of Public Safety and Corrections officers for service of the arrest warrant.ย ย
