The Town of Chesapeake Beach is glowing these days. The Christmas spirit seems to shine the brightest after sundown, when thousands of lights along the major roadways make for a collective, colorful display.

On Sunday evening, Dec. 1, dozens of town residents of all ages gathered at town hall for the annual โ€œLight Up the Town.โ€

Mayor Bruce Wahl greeted the attendees and introduced special guests, Santa and Mrs. Claus. The mayor thanked two companiesโ€”Windmill Farms and Wired Inc.โ€”for their work in making the town-sanctioned and financially supported light show possible. Wahl also had high praise for the Chesapeake Beach Department of Public Works for its effort.

Musical entertainment was provided by the Beach Elementary School Fifth-Grade Band and Strings, under the direction of Marilyn Beeson; and the versatile Bob Snider. A group of town children also sang Christmas carols after the official lighting and as small children visited with the Clauses, ate cookies and drank hot apple cider.

Town of Chesapeake Beach home, business and boat owners are invited to compete in the municipalityโ€™s annual Holiday Lights Contest. Judging will take place Monday, Dec. 16 with the winners announced and prizes awarded Thursday, Dec. 19 prior to the townโ€™s December meeting.
