It was announced Monday, April 09, that Megan Block, the head field hockey coach at St. Maryโ€™s College of Maryland, has been given the additional duties of Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Womenโ€™s Administrator at SMCM effective immediately.

โ€œI look forward to working with Megan in this new capacity,โ€ stated Scott Devine, St. Maryโ€™s Director of Athletics and Recreation.ย  โ€œShe has been a great asset since joining the staff in 2003 and this is a well deserved promotion.ย  Megan is an outstanding coach and she has proven to be an excellent administrator as well.ย  Our Department will certainly benefit with Megan as a member of our management team.โ€

When Block joined the staff in August of 2003, it was as the head coach for both field hockey and womenโ€™s lacrosse.ย  However, last spring the two coaching positions were split and the 2006-07 academic year marked the first time that Block only coached field hockey.ย  In addition to her coaching duties, Block oversees the administration of the physical fitness and recreational sports courses.

โ€œI am very excited about taking on the additional roles in the department and thankful to Scott for giving me this opportunity,โ€ said Block.ย  โ€œIโ€™m looking forward to broadening my interaction with the other teams in this new capacity.โ€

Block entered her fourth season as head coach with the field hockey program in 2006, leading them to a 12-5 mark (4-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference) and a No. 3 seed in the CAC Tournament.ย  She guided the Seahawks to the programโ€™s first 12-win season in 2005, giving the team three consecutive seasons with at least ten wins.

In her first season at the helm of the field hockey squad, Block coached the team to a 10-9 overall record and No. 3 seed in the conference postseason tournament.ย  It marked the first-time in school history that the Seahawks posted a winning season record and hosted a league tournament contest.

Block came to St. Maryโ€™s as an assistant coach for both programs in 2002 after serving as an intern for the field hockey program at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, during the 2001 season.ย  Prior to Hamilton, Block was an assistant for two years at her alma mater, Salisbury University, and helped guide the Sea Gulls to two conference championships and an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2000.

Block lives in nearby Lexington Park, Maryland with her husband, Jayme, who is the head coach of the menโ€™s lacrosse program at SMCM.ย  The Blocks are the proud parents of two daughters, Keeley and Sydney.
