WALDORF, Md. – Heading into the series deciding rubber match on Sunday afternoon, the Blue Crabs put Austin Glorius on the mound to take on Brendan Feldmann. After very little offensive action in the first six innings of baseball, Long Island’s bats exploded in the latter third of the ball game, taking the series on a 5-1 victory.
Austin Glorius was masterful through five innings of work, the starter tossed five scoreless innings, forcing Long Island to leave seven runners on base. Brendan Feldmann nearly matched Glorius step for step, but would allow the lone Blue Crabs run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Jake Marshall RBI single.
Patrick Baker (L, 1-1) took over the pitching duties in the sixth inning, and after a clean first inning of work, allowed the bases to load before giving way to Carlos Diaz. On Diaz’s first pitch of the contest, he allowed Hector Sanchez to clear the bases on a double to left-center, giving the Ducks a 3-1 lead. The Ducks plated another pair in the top of the ninth inning on a Ben Farias single, giving Long Island a 5-1 lead that Southern Maryland wouldn’t recover from.
Despite out hitting the Ducks, the Blue Crabs dropped the series finale by a score of 5-1. Southern Maryland gets the day off on Monday, before hosting the York Revolution on Tuesday, June 8th.
