(Waldorf, MD., August 2, 2017) โ€“ The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced Wednesday that Zach Wilson was promoted to hitting coach, a role he will serve for the remainder of the teamโ€™s 10th anniversary season.

Wilson joined the Blue Crabs in 2015, playing a key role in the teamโ€™s 2015 Freedom Division Championship. He resigned with the team for his third season on February 2nd. The 1B/DH put up strong numbers in the first half of the season, being named to his first Atlantic League All-Star team, as well as being chosen to represent Southern Maryland in the Home-Run Derby. Wilson won the Home-Run Derby, before leading the Freedom Division in the All-Star Game, being named MVP for his three-run homerun.

โ€œWe are excited to have Zach serve on the coaching staff for the remainder of the season. We believe there is a lot he can contribute to this team in an expanded role,โ€ said Blue Crabs General Manager Courtney Knichel.

Before joining Southern Maryland, Wilson spent four seasons playing in affiliated baseball as a member of the New York Yankees organization. He was originally a 21st round draft pick by the Yankees in the 2011 MLB Draft out of Arizona State University. To this point, Wilson is a career .270 hitter, with 60 HR and 265 RBIโ€™s over seven professional seasons.

โ€œIโ€™m looking forward to the opportunity to continue helping out the team in any way I can. Iโ€™m happy to be onboard a great coaching staff and look forward to an expanded role in the organization,โ€ said Wilson.
