
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs fell to the Somerset Patriots 3-1 in game one of the three-game series.
After an hour and twenty-seven-minute rain delay the Blue Crabs took the field and jumped to an early lead against the Patriots on the strength of Zach Wilsonโs solo home run to left center to put the Blue Crabs ahead 1-0.
On the first pitch of the fifth inning, after a 17 minute Fourth of July fireworks show, Patriotsโ Trayvon Robinson teed off a solo shot to even the score at one.
In the top of the sixth Patriot Aharon Eggleston hit a line drive to right field and tried to come home on a double by Eric Farris but was thrown out at the plate by shortstop Eric Garcia to preserve the tie.
In the top of the eighth, reliever Navery Moore entered the game with runners on first and second, but couldnโt work out of the jam. The Patriots tacked on two unearned runs on RBI singles by David Vidal and Bryan LaHair.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Blue Crabs went down in order to end the game with a final score of 3-1.
