WALDORF, MD. — The Blue Crabs’ offense was shut down by the Long Island Ducks in game two of the four-game series on Friday night. Starting pitcher Brian Grening gave up a leadoff single to Anthony Vega in the first, which turned into a run after Vega stole second and reached third on an error.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning, when Grening allowed two walks, a single, and a two-out triple to give the Ducks a 4-0 advantage. Right-hander Ian Marshall took the mound in the sixth inning, for his sixth appearance of the season. Ducks shortstop Dan Lyons led off against Marshall with a triple to right field, followed by designated hitter Mark Minicozzi, who walked on four straight balls. First baseman Ruben Gotay doubled to drive in both runs and make the score 6-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, Michael Snyder walked and Zach Wilson drove in the run with a single to center field to put the Blue Crabs on the board. Snyder hit his thirteenth homer of the season over the left field wall to tack on another run in the bottom of the ninth. Despite the fact that they out-hit the Ducks 8-7, the Blue Crabs were defeated 6-2.
