Waldorf, MD – Southern Maryland came into Saturday night, June 13โs ballgame with 39 hits overall in the last three games combined, good for the second most in the Atlantic League over that span.ย The offensive output continued with the Blue Crabs banging out a season high 17 hits and picking up the 12-2 victory at Regency Furniture Stadium against the Camden Riversharks in game three of the four game series.
After each team scored runs in the first inning, Southern Maryland scored three in the bottom of the second.ย
Southern Maryland added six more runs in their final three at-bats.ย
With the Blue Crabs up 9-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Gustavo Molina walked, and advanced to second on a wild pitch.ย Anthony Vega then singled to put runners at the corners, and Jamar Walton drove both runners in with a two run triple.ย Tyler Wagner drove in Walton with a sacrifice fly and an error by the center fielder Michael Rocket to bring the score to itโs final of 12-2.
Camdenโs bullpen struggled tonight, giving up six runs, on six hits, in three innings of work.ย On the other side of the coin, Blue Crabs starter Brian Burres went seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, and striking out five.ย The first six hittersโLewis, Stevenson, Wilson, Molina, Opitz, and Rosaโwent a combined 13-25 with nine runs driven in.
Southern Maryland will be looking for the sweep Sunday as they take on the Riversharks in game four of the series.ย Right-hander Brian Grening (2-3, 5.01) will throw for Southern Maryland, and Sean Gleason, also a righty(2-4, 3.78), will toss for Camden.ย The first pitch is set for2:05 p.m.
