York, PA — Things are starting to look up for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Since coming back from the All-Star break the Blue Crabs have now won four out of five games.
Blue Crabs starting pitcher Brian Grening hurled shutout ball through 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts scattering six hits to lead the Blue Crabs to a 5-1 win at People’s Bank Park on Tuesday night. He retired the first seven Revolution batters he faced—three via the strikeout to earn his first quality start of the season.
Zach Wilson, Michael Snyder, Gustavo Molina and Eric Garcia did the bulk of the work in Tuesday night’s win against the Revolution, going 10-for-16 with three runs and four RBIs.
Blue Crabs jumped out to a 1-0 lead on designated hitter Snyder’s sac fly scoring third baseman Bryant Nelson in the top of the first inning. In the fifth, Snyder blasted a two-run homer to pad the lead 3-0 for his third RBI of the night.
Southern Maryland kept the offense going in the eighth tacking on another run after left fielder Alfredo Marte scored on a RBI fielder’s choice by second baseman Gary Brown putting the Crabs up 4-0. However in the bottom of the inning, the Revolution spoiled the Blue Crabs shutout bid with a home run by Andres Perez, the Revs only run of the game.
The offense for the Blue Crabs was not finished there though. The Crabs got their fifth and last run of the game in the ninth when catcher Gustavo Molina knocked in Wilson with a RBI single. Southern Maryland will continue the series tomorrow in York with the first pitch set for 6:30 P.M.
