Bridgeport, CT — The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs mounted a comeback that came up short as their five-game win streak was snapped by the Bridgeport Bluefish in a 4-3 loss at Harbor Yard.

Darrell Mitchell (9-10) earned the win for Bridgeport allowing three runs in six innings of work. Mickey Jannis (4-1) lost his first game as a member of the Blue Crabs surrendering four runs in his six innings. Tim Gustafson picked up his fifth save of the season with a scoreless 9th inning.

Ramon Castro gave the Bluefish the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning as he drove in Joe Mather with a two-out, RBI single.

Jake Opitz tied the game briefly in the top of the 4th with a sacrifice fly that scored Bobby Stevens, but the Bluefish countered back with three in the bottom half. Luis Lopez cracked an RBI double and Luis Rodriguez followed with a two-run double to push the lead to 4-1.

The Blue Crabs continue their roadtripย  against the Bridgeport Bluefish starting tomorrow evening at 7:00. Southern Maryland returns home to face the Somerset Patriots for their final home series of the season starting Tuesday September 16 at 7:05.
