
NEW BRITAIN, CT – The New Britain Bees came hungry to win on Saturday night after losing in 11 innings on Friday night to the Blue Crabs.ย The Bees beat the Blue Crabs 5-4 after wasting no time in the first inning where they took the lead 1-0 and extending it to 3-0 in the bottom of the second.
New Britainโs catcher James Skelton started out the game with a walk and later scoring after third baseman Jovan Rosa hit an RBI sacrifice fly.ย Southern Marylandโs starting pitcher Tim Sexton gave up three hits and two more runs in the second inning as New Britainโs first baseman Kevin Rivers ripped a double to center field later scoring on an RBI single by Michael Crouse scored on a double by left fielder Anthony Hewitt.
The Bees picked up their fourth run of the night when designated hitter Craig Maddox ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth sending Rosa home.ย Maddox lead New Britainโs offense going four for four with three singles, and one RBI double.
The Blue Crabs got their first run of the game in the sixth inning when first baseman Zach Wilson scored on a sacrifice fly by Dโarby Myers coming on strong in the top of the ninth inning tying the game scoring, three more runs.ย Gary Brown doubled off of New Britain closer Craig Stem.ย The next hitter, Bryant Nelson slashed an RBI double that allowed Brown to score.ย Wilson kept the momentum going by smacking an RBI double to push Nelson home for another run.ย Michael Snyder walked, advancing to second on Kuan-Jen Chenโs single, which brought in the tying run.
The Bees finished off the Blue Crabs in the bottom of the ninth when Steve Carillo hit a walk off RBI single extending his hitting streak to ten games.ย The Blue Crabs will look to win the series tomorrow afternoon in New Britain.ย The first pitch is set for 1:35 P.M. from New Britain Stadium.
