LANCASTER, P.A. — It was a pitchers’ duel today in Lancaster, as a game that started in the morning ended in extras with the Barnstormers sneaking by the Blue Crabs 1-0 in 12 innings.ย

RHP Gaby Hernandez got ball today for the Blue Crabs and pitched all nine innings, allowing just four hits, and striking out nine.ย  RHP Bryan Woodall also threw nine innings, and allowed just two hits.ย  Both clubs left it to their bullpens in extra innings.ย  Lancaster came to the plate in the bottom of the 12th with the game still tied at 0-0.ย  Josh Whitaker led things off with a single to left.ย  The next hitter, Mike McDade was hit by the pitch to put two runners on.ย  That spelled the end of the day for LHP Scott Maine.ย  Righty Brian Grening was summoned out of the bullpen, and he gave up the game winning run on aย  hit to left off the bat of Kevin Ahrens, allowing Whitaker to score and send the fans home happy.

With the loss, the short three game winning streak has come to a close for Southern Maryland.ย  To date, that was their longest winning streak of the year.ย  The six game road trip will continue on, as the Blue Crabs are set to take on Long Island in a four game series in three days this weekend.ย  Game one is set for tomorrow at 6:35 P.M.
