The first-ever Calvert County Restaurant Week was officially declared a success March 5. Representatives from the Calvert County Governmentโs Department of Economic Development reported the success to the county commissioners during the boardโs weekly meeting.
ย
According to tourism specialist Joyce Stinnett Baki, 36 restaurants and specialty food shops participated. Customers provided the desired feedback.ย โWe received 840 comments from participants,โ said Baki.
ย
In addition to thanking the restaurants and residents who took advantage of the weekโs dining specials, Baki also expressed appreciation to the local media, including The Bay Net, for getting the word out about the promotion.
ย
The comments were then placed in a basket and the commissioners drew the names of the much-publicized prize drawings.
ย
The winners were: Karen Hinkle, Grand Prize Winner; Hannah Withem, first runner-up; Marge Hoffman, second runner-up; Marilyn Harkey, third runner- up; and Jeff Heiska, fourth runner-up.
Hinkle won a gift basket containing several restaurant gift cards, a two-night stay at a local hotel, tickets to Calvert Marine Museum and Annmarie Garden and other items. Restaurant gifts cards were won by Withem, Hoffman, Harkey and Heiska.
ย
Restaurant Week is a promotion many U.S. communities have used as a strategy for promoting local eateries.
