LEONARDTOWN, MD – Superintendent of Schools, Mr. J. Scott Smith, announced the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting of May 25, 2016.
The Board appointed Ms. Susan Fowler as Director of Special Education in the Department of Special Education. Ms. Fowler is currently serving as the acting Director of Special Education. Ms. Fowler recently has served as Elementary Accountability Officer in the Office of the Superintendent. Since rejoining St. Mary’s County Public Schools in 2007, she has also served as Principal of Lexington Park Elementary School. Ms. Fowler earned her Master’s degree at George Washington University and her Bachelor’s degree at Louisiana State University.
Ms. Honora Batelka has been appointed Principal of Ridge Elementary School. Ms. Batelka holds a Master’s degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a Bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She has served as a Special Education teacher, Instructional Resource Teacher, and Academic Dean. She is currently serving as a Supervisor of Special Education in the Department of Special Education.
Ms. Audrey Ellis has been appointed Principal of Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. She holds a Master’s degree from McDaniel College and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Hartford. Ms. Ellis previously served as Assistant Principal at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. Ms. Ellis is currently the Principal of Piney Point Elementary School.
Ms. Glenna Edwards has been appointed Principal of Piney Point Elementary. She is currently an Assistant Principal at Esperanza Middle School. Previously, Ms. Edwards has served as a Social Studies teacher, Technology Education teacher, and Teacher in Charge. Ms. Edwards holds a Master’s degree from Towson University and Bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University.
These appointments will become effective Friday, July 1, 2016.
