The memory of former County Administrator John Savich was honored in a moving 20 minute ceremony at the start of the weekly Board of County Commissioners business meeting.
With his widow, son and daughter in law in attendance the remembrance began with a video tribute, highlighting his business and governmental careers in Washington State, Michigan and St. Mary’s County. Photos of a youthful John Savich through his tours as Department of Economic and Community Development Director and County Administrator were also featured.
Commissioner President Jack Russell led off the tributes by announcing the re-naming for their conference room in John’s honor. “It is appropriate that we rename the conference room for John,” said Russell. “That is where he solved many of our problems and worked to build consensus where needed.”
The family also received a citation from State Senator Roy Dyson, proclamations from the Southern Maryland House delegation and the BOCC and a bronze plaque honoring his years of service to the county was also given.
Speaking on behalf of the family Zach Savich thanked the many county employees and former associates for the tribute. “This is something our family will never forget and will always be thankful for he said. “This has been remarkable and makes it feel as though my father is with us here today.”
