Monday April 12th at Great Mills High School, the Chopticon Braves beat the Hornets after a sluggish start 18-5 in a physical county rivalry game. Alec Horan kicked off the scoring for the Braves at 10:45 remaining in the first quarter. Great Mills had a productive first quarter with Eric Dennis tying the scoreย 1-1 with the Hornets shorthanded.
Josh Thompson (two goals one assist) gave the Hornets their only lead of the game as the quarter ended 2-1. After motivation from Braves Coach Boyle, the Chopticon offense kicked into high gear scoring six unanswered goals and 17 of the final 20 en route to the victory.
Dean Holtzberlein and Chris Schompers had hat tricks for the Braves with Nick Landavazzo and Drew Gantt adding two goals each. One of Ganttโs goals was while the Braves were three men up as Great Mills Coach Leon was handed two consecutive unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after arguing a penalty call.
Next up for the Hornets is another county rival with Leonardtown coming to Hornets Stadium on Thursday April 15. That same day, the Braves head home to face SMAC lacrosse powerhouse Northern.
