Update Sept. 21:

(La Plata, Maryland) โ€“ The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland has identified the victim that was involved in the motor vehicle collision on September 17, 2015 on Maryland Route 6 at Valley Road.ย  She has been identified as Danielle Leigh Windsor (25 Yoa) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

UPDATE – MSP Press Release – 11:30 p.m.

On Sept. 17 at approximately 8:14 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to a collision on Maryland Route 6 in the area of Valley Road, La Plata. As a result of the collision a female driver was killed.

The victim has not been positively identified. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy and identification by Forensic Investigators.ย 

A preliminary investigation conducted by troopers from the La Plata Barrack, with the assistance of a Collision Reconstruction specialist, indicates a Ford passenger vehicle was traveling on westbound Maryland Route 6 passing vehicles on a double yellow line while traversing a curve in the roadway. The driver pulled into the path of a Dodge passenger vehicle which was traveling eastbound on Maryland Route 6. The driver of the Dodge attempted to avoid the collision by taking evasive action and pulling toward the eastbound shoulder. The driver of the Ford also swerved toward the eastbound shoulder striking the Dodge head-on.ย 

As a result of the collision both drivers were trapped in their vehicles which subsequently caught fire. The driver of the Dodge was extricated from the vehicle by a Maryland State Police K-9 officer arriving on the scene. The driver of the Ford was extensively pinned in the vehicle and the fire prevented extrication.ย 

The driver of the Dodge was transported to Prince Georgeโ€™s Hospital by Maryland State Police Aviation.ย

Port Tobacco, MD – A spokesman at the Maryland State Police (MSP) Barrack in La Plata confirms the agency is investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred in Port Tobacco Thursday evening, Sept. 17. The fiery crash has claimed the life of at least one motorist. Reports indicate that another injured motorist has been flown to a Washington, DC area trauma center.ย 

The crash occurred sometime after 8 p.m. on Port Tobacco Road between Quailwood and Valley Road. The MSP accident reconstruction team remains at the scene.ย 

Motorists should avoid the area at this time.
