Prince Frederick MD – The Optimist Club of Calvert-Prince Frederick held the installation of Officers and Directors for 2017-2018 on Monday, October 9, 2017 at The Greene Turtle Restaurant in Prince Frederick.ย  Maryland South Delaware Optimist District Governor Bill Stone officiated in the installation of Jack Brown as Club President for 2017-2018.ย  President Jack began his term on October 1, 2017. He has served as Internal Vice President, Director and chaired several projects during his membership since joining Calvert Optimist Club in 1998.ย 

Serving with President Brown on the Clubโ€™s Board of Directors for the 2018-2018 year are: Internal Vice-President Krista Brezina, External Vice-President Nancy Highsmith, Treasurer Bunk Horsmon, and Secretary Ed Dorsey and Directors Kathryn Marsh, Kathy Smith Kim Long, Darryl Mansfield, Forrest Moore, Bob Merkle, David Porter and Past President Bob Young.

“Iโ€™m excited!ย  Our club has a long history of service to our youth and our community and we hope to continue this effort.ย  Our members are talented and very “optimistic” and are ready to go!ย  We hope our community will join us for the betterment of our youth and those that need help.ย  Join us in our effort with membership and support our programs by buying a Christmas tree/wreath.” President Jack Brown commented after he was officially installed as Club President.

The Optimist Club of Calvert-Prince Frederick has supported the youth of Calvert County since its founding in 1968.ย  Programs and service projects which the Club is involved include: Youth Appreciation Week, Halloween Parade and Party, Hunter Safety Training Course, Oratorical and Essay Contests, Respect for Law, Fishing Tournament, Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets for the Needy, Calvert Christmas Parade, Calvert Shop with A Cop, Books for Babies and the Calvert Community Bulletin Board.ย  A Scholarship Program, the focus of the Clubโ€™s Foundation provides three (3) grants each year; the Optimist-Knapp Scholarship (valued at $8,000), the Calvert Optimist Scholarship (valued at $6,000) and the Career/Vocational/Technological Scholarship (valued at $3,000) to Calvert County Public Schools graduates totaling $17,000 annually.
These programs and services are provided by funding raised through, and the Clubโ€™s annual Christmas Tree/ Wreath Sales adjacent to the Prince Frederick Safeway and Optimist Bingo.
