Brunch, Bands And Fresh Crushes: Solomons Tiki Bar Expands To Seven Days A Week

SOLOMONS, Md. Tiki Bar & Grill Solomons Island is back, refreshed and changing things up this season, bringing back fresh orange crushes, adding more live music, introducing brunch and now open seven days a week, giving the Southern Maryland community even more ways to come together and enjoy.

The changes come as it celebrates its 46th anniversary, kicking off the season with a Grand Opening Weekend April 17–19, featuring live bands throughout the weekend, along with an updated menu and refreshed drink offerings, with performances continuing all summer long.

Originally starting as a small bar connected to the former Island Manor Hotel, the Tiki Bar’s story goes back to the late 1970s before officially taking shape in 1980. What began as a simple hangout spot quickly grew into a Southern Maryland tradition, drawing crowds year after year. Through changing ownership, major storms and steady growth, the space continued to evolve — expanding into the open-air venue known today, complete with sand underfoot, palm trees and its signature tiki style. Decades later, it remains a place where generations have gathered for music, drinks and summer memories.

Gary Ouellette — who joined the tiki bar’s team in 2021 — is helping shape the next season, working alongside General Manager Nikki James, who leads day-to-day operations.

Ouellette said the focus is on creating an experience for both daytime and nighttime crowds.

“We’re focused on building an atmosphere where people can come out, enjoy live music and just have a good time — something that works for families during the day and adults at night.”

Now open seven days a week, the tiki bar is leaning into a full experience, offering something for both families during the day and an adult-focused atmosphere at night with live bands and entertainment, along with a variety of happy hour specials offered throughout the week.

The outdoor space brings a fun, beachy vibe, with a laid-back sand area that lets guests kick off their shoes and settle in. It’s the kind of spot where you can soak up the sun, grab a drink and just enjoy being outside. With bands playing outdoors, the music fills the space and keeps the energy going, creating an easygoing, sun-soaked atmosphere that feels like a mini getaway with friends and family.

A major part of the update is an expanded live music schedule.

Guests can now enjoy a full lineup of live entertainment throughout the week, with bands on Thursday at 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m., creating consistent opportunities to catch live music from afternoon into the evening.

Behind the bar, a fan-favorite is making its return.

Fresh, made-to-order orange crushes will return after opening weekend, offering a light, refreshing option that pairs well with the waterfront setting while keeping service running smoothly. The drink menu overall focuses on simple, crisp selections that are easy to enjoy, especially during the warmer months. On especially busy nights, when live bands draw larger crowds, offerings may be streamlined to maintain quick and efficient service.

The space itself has also been refreshed.

Inside, the updated interior offers a brighter, cleaner look while maintaining the casual, laid-back feel regulars expect. Outside, the tiki-style setup and sand seating continue to anchor the experience, giving guests a place to relax, listen to music and take in the view.

The menu has been streamlined with a lighter approach, focusing on items that are easy to share and not overly heavy, making it ideal for both quick stops and longer visits.

The team is preparing to launch weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, aimed at bringing in early-day crowds and giving families another option to enjoy the space before the nighttime entertainment begins.

Through it all, the tiki bar has remained a go-to gathering spot, known for its live entertainment, outdoor setting and the kind of easygoing experience that keeps both locals and visitors coming back.

With a milestone anniversary, more live music, the return of fresh crushes and a renewed focus on atmosphere, the Solomons tiki bar is stepping into the season as a go-to destination for waterfront dining and entertainment.
