UPDATE March 23

On March 20, at 5:39 p.m., members of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the intersection of Md. Route 260 and Jewell Road in Dunkirk for the report of a motor vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a blue 1969 Volkswagen van being driven westbound on Md. Route 260 by Seth Louis Dazzo, 30 of Sykesville,ย  struck a red 1999 Mercury Villager.ย  The Mercury, driven by a 17-year-old male from Dunkirk, was making a left turn onto eastbound Md. Route 260 from Jewell Road and failed to yield the right of way to Mr. Dazzoโ€™s vehicle.ย 

The driver was operating on a Maryland Learnerโ€™s Permit and was accompanied in the car by his mother as well as two siblings.ย  Dazzo was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to injuries received in the crash and was pronounced dead.

The juvenile male driver of the Mercury was transported to P.G. Shock Trauma Center with injuries and is in stable condition.ย  The mother, Deanna R. Brooke, 37 of Dunkirk, and two juvenile passengers were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.ย 

The Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is conducting a complete investigation into the events that lead up to the crash.ย  Any additional information regarding this should be brought to the attention of Cpl. Vladimir Bortchevsky at bortchvi@co.cal.md.us or (410) 535-2800.

At approximately 5:45 pm on Friday, March 20, the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad had a report of an auto accident at Route 260 โ€“ Chesapeake Beach Road and Brickhouse Road.ย  When first responders arrived on the scene, they found two patients who were entrapped and two small children in the minivan.ย  Additional ambulances and medics were requested along with medevac helicopter.

The medic from Calvert County did evaluation of the first patient removed from the entrapment. That patient required CPR and was rushed to Calvert Memorial Hospital by ambulance 5 of Dunkirk.ย  The State Helicopter arrived at the scene and assisted in treating the two children and the second entrapped patient.

The two children were transported by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital with the Medic from State Police on board.ย  Another patient was transported by ambulance 1 of North Beach to PG Hospital to the Trauma Unit and this ambulance had medic from AA County on board.
