Authorities in Calvert County are investigating a serious crash in Sunderland. Rescue crews were alerted to an auto accident with entrapment on Wednesday, October 13, around 5:19 p.m. at the Route 2/4 split near the Park and Ride.
Units from the Huntingtown and Dunkirk arrived on the scene to find three vehicles involved. A blue Dodge Dakota Sport was on fire, two people were trapped in an orange Chevrolet HHR, and a dump truck and its driver were uninjured.
Crews from Engine 61 worked to extinguish the truck fire while, remaining crews worked to extricate the two passengers trapped inside the HHR by removing all four doors and flapping the roof.
Two patients were transported by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital. The condition of the accident victims are unknown at this time. The driver of the Dodge and the Dump Truck signed refusal treatments at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
