The Summer of 2014 vacation is officially over for Calvert County’s approximately 16,000 public school students. On Tuesday morning, Aug. 19 the buses were rolling and students arrived at Calvert County Public Schools’ (CCPS) 23 locations.
Every school year brings change and the 2014-2015 school year brings quite a few transitions.
Appeal and Patuxent elementary schools have been unified into a single campus. Charles Treft is serving as the principal of the campus.
In June several principal changes were announced. Among the changes was the administrative transfer of Dr. Ramona Crowley from Huntingtown Elementary School (HES) to Barstow Elementary School (BaES), where she becomes the school’s sixth principal. Former BaES Principal Donna House is the new principal at Mutual Elementary School.
Crowley has served as HES principal for 23 years and last year received the Distinguished Educational Leadership Award from the Washington Post. Brock Fulton is the new HES principal.
The biggest leadership change also occurred in June when the Calvert County Board of Education announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel D. Curry as the new superintendent of schools.
A reminder to motorists if a school vehicle has stopped on a roadway and is operating flashing red lights, the driver of any other vehicle on the roadway shall stop at least 20 feet from the school vehicle and may not proceed until the school vehicle either resumes motion or the red lights are deactivated.
