LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – Huntingtown has won their first two games of the season, week one was a 31-7 victory over Patuxent and week two was a 3-0 upset over Lackey. Huntingtown has not stats from this season, but we know that they were able to force four turnovers against Lackey and hold the Chargers to 33 passing yards and 149 rushing. Shutting out the defending SMAC champs is very impressive and Huntingtownโs overall record against the Cavaliers, 9-4 with a nine-game win streak coming from 2006-2014, suggests that the Hurricanes should win tonight’s contest.
Calvert has won the rivalry contest the past three years, shutting out the Hurricanes in each of those games. Huntingtown has much improved over this year and isย picked as the heavy favorite by many. In week one, Calvertโs defense held Northern under 100 yards rushing, as well as passing. In week two, they were able to shut out Leonardtown and even provide a defensive score. With only seven points given up so far this season, the Cavalier defense is the strength of this team. Offensively, Calvert has improved from week one compared to week two. The caveat is that Leonardtown is a much worse team than Northern or Huntingtown. Calvert also grew in the passing department, recording 84 yards in one half against Leonardtown, versus only 43 yards in all of the Northern game.
This rivalry game should return to its single score margins of victory that saw the stands and parking lots packed, and the winner should undoubtedly be instilled with confidence as they approach the middle of the 2018 football season.
