In an attempt to discourage impaired driving during the holiday season, the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, with funding from โ€œCheckpoint Strikeforceโ€, will be conducting DUI sobriety checkpoints at various locations throughout Calvert County.

DUI sobriety checkpoints are a tool used by law enforcement throughout Maryland where impaired driving has been prevalent or a significant contributing factor in serious and fatal injury vehicle crashes.

The purpose of these sobriety checkpoints is to aid deputies in identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways.ย  We believe that a substantial benefit will continue to be gained from the use of sobriety checkpoints.ย  Increasing the impaired driverโ€™s perceived risk of detection may deter him or her from driving under the influence or while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office appreciates your cooperation in this effort and hopes that any inconvenience you experience at the sobriety checkpoints is minimal and does not unnecessarily delay your journey.
