Owings/Barstow, MD โ€“ Mid-October is always a great time to visit the farm. The fall season weather proved ideal Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16 for the annual Calvert County Farm Festival.

On Saturday, Swann Farms welcomed visitors to its pumpkin patch. The sixth generation farm, located in the Owings/lower Marlboro area, gave their visitors a chance to take a ride around the patch or search and select the perfect October pumpkin. Besides being very decorative, pumpkins are also loaded with nutrition. During the spring months of April and May, Swann Farms is busy with their U-pick strawberry harvest. Pickers come prepared with containers to select their own delicious in-season strawberries from their large patch.

Spider Hall Farm located on Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick had plenty of activities going on Saturday and Sunday. The 362-acre farm includes an 8-acre corn maze. Other special Farm Festival features at Spider Hall were the hamster ball relays, pig races and hay rides.

Other Calvert farms participating in the 2016 Farm Festival were Double Oak Farm at the American Chestnut Land Trust in Prince Frederick, Fridays Creek Winery in Owings, Horsmon Farm in St. Leonard and Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery in St. Leonard.
