The Garvey Senior Center Council raised over $8000 this summer in a raffle for a photograph on canvas. The photograph, titled Snow Geese Landing, was taken by local photographer Dean Newman on the eastern shore. Valued at $250, the photograph was won by St. Maryโ€™s County District 3 Commissioner candidate Clarke Guy.

As a candidate, Guy is running unaffiliated as a self-proclaimed centrist. His mantra for his candidacy and his life is outlined on his website as โ€œLove One Another.โ€ Guy attributes the origin of these words to live by as being his personal experience in his 21-plus years in the Air Force and the presence of Catholicism in his life. He views local politics as a nonpartisan issue and would like to serve the county as its first unaffiliated member of public office.

After being informed that heโ€™d won the photograph, Guy announced that he would be donating it back to the Garvey Center. The photograph will hang in the current Garvey Senior Activity Center and be moved to the new center next fall. Once the photograph is moved an engraving will be placed underneath of it stating, โ€œPhoto by Dean Newman, donated by Clarke Guy.โ€
