At approximately 3:00 pm, on Thursday February 1, in front of Leonardtown High School on Route 5, a woman driving a charcoal VW Jetta swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle and crashed into the ditch by the side of the road, according to Deputy Ross of the St. Maryโ€™s County Sherriffโ€™s Department, who was on the scene.

It was a minor accident involving one vehicle with only the driver aboard.ย

An ambulance arrived on the scene within ten minutes of the crash. An emergency medical team placed the driver in the ambulance to be taken to St. Maryโ€™s Hospital in Leonardtown. โ€œThe injuries were not life threatening,โ€ said Ross.

โ€œSpeed was not a factor,โ€ and nor was alcohol, Ross told The Bay Net.ย  The vehicleโ€™s right tire and front right side received the most damage, but the overall the vehicle was not heavily damaged.ย

According to Ross, accidents in that particular area happen frequently.ย  โ€œThere are usually about one or two car accidents in that area each month,โ€ he said.ย
