Shortly after 10:30 P.M. on June 15, 2011, law enforcement was dispatched to Thompson Corner Roadย in Mechanicsville for the undetermined traffic incident. At 10:37 rescue crews from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2, Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 29, and Hughesville Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 2 EMS were dispatched for the personal injury accident with one vehicle into a tree. The accident scene ended up being at the intersection of Lockes Crossing Road. Shortly after, the assignment was upgraded to a subject trapped in the vehicle which as Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2 and the St. Mary’s County Advance Life Support. MVFD Co. 2 responded with Squad 2 and Engine 23, MVRS Co. 29 with Ambulance 298, HVFD Co. 2 with Paramedic Ambulance 27 and Squad 2 and SMALS with Medic 291 who was cancelled by the paramedic ambulance. Crews arrived on scene to find a single vehicle with a single occupant into a tree with the occupant trapped in the vehicle. Rescue crews worked aggressively to free the patient. Once the patient was extricated, Ambulance 298 took on the paramedic from Ambulance 27 and provided patient care which lead to the request a helicopter for transport to P.G. Trauma Center. Engine 224 responded from MVFD Co. 2 to establish a safe landing zone for Trooper 2. Emergency crews worked on scene of the incident for a total of 50 minutes.
