Last Saturday, about 9 p.m., Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department Station 3 and Emergency Medical Service Stations 3 and 12 arrived at the scene of a horrific car accident on St. Charles Parkway near Northgate Place.

While units were enroute, the Charles County Sherriff’s Office arrived on the scene and advised the VFD and EMS units that they had one patient, a 17 year-old Waldorf boy, confirmed trapped, requested urgent Priority 1 response.

According to the station report from Waldorf VFD Station 3 firefighter Eddie Tatum, when Squad 3 arrived on the scene, they found a single vehicle split in half.ย  The driver lay trapped in the front portion of the vehicle, which had come to rest in the woods at the side of the road. ย The rear portion of the car sat in pieces in the roadway.

According to Kristen Timko, CCSO spokesperson, the victim had been driving north on St. Charles Parkway approaching the turn for Route 5.ย  He lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree. ย He was wearing his seatbelt, and was the only occupant of the vehicle.ย ย

Tatum reported that Deputy EMS-3 Chief Monday immediately requested the Maryland State Police medivac helicopter. ย The Waldorf VFD Station 3 Chief stabilized the vehicle and used the Hurst tool to cut the patient free. ย After the patient was freed the EMS and rescue units removed him from the vehicle.ย ย

He was medivacโ€™d to Prince Georgeโ€™s Hospital Center and was in serious condition.ย ย
